My name is James Schull. I am excited to announce the formation of The Field House, a non-profit organization, that I have recently launched here.
Sports, and more specifically, organized team sports have always played a major role in my life growing up. The hard work, dedication, sense of belonging to something larger than myself, the loyalty, and learning how to deal with adversity and overcome any obstacles have all contributed to my life in an invaluable way. I am sure many of you or someone very close to you understand what I am talking about.
I was fortunate enough to be able to afford to play organized team sports throughout my childhood, and young adult years. I have also been very fortunate to be able to coach my children in various sports during their younger years as well. Being a part of a team and excelling at athletics can make all the difference in the world in a child’s life.
During my years of coaching, I have become all too familiar with the fact that not all children and their families can afford to play these sports for many reasons. I have paid for players who would not otherwise be able to afford the registration fees. I have seen to it that the young athletes on my team are properly equipped to play the game, whether it is the proper shoes, protective gear, or gloves. I do this because I know the value of playing these sports and know the positive effect it will have on the lives of the children, and their families.
This is why I have formed The Field House. The field house is a non-profit Christian organization dedicated to stepping in and filling the gap for the families who could not otherwise afford the cost of playing organized team sports. The field house will pay registration fees, administrative fees, and equipment fees on behalf of those children who cannot afford the equipment or fees involved with playing organized team sports. Field House will assist in the cost associated with playing different sports, at different levels, and different age groups for all children who have a need.
Having seen the need on my teams, I am certain the need exists across the DFW Metroplex, Texas and nationally. The Field House will initially team up with local sports associations and provide assistance to those in need. Eventually, we hope to expand our ministry to all North Texas Associations, and then to the State of Texas. A further vision involves the creation of a sports complex for children to participate, free of charge, in the sport(s) of their choice in a safe, Christian environment.
As a Christian organization, The Field House believes that by providing access to athletics for those who would not otherwise have the resources to play we are given an opportunity to be a witness and testify for Christ in a true and authentic away. As I have given to children on my teams, I have always told them not to thank me, but to “thank God.” When a child is supported by The Field House, they will receive a Christian message of hope and encouragement which is central to the ministry and the testimony of The Field House. In doing so we believe a child's life will be impacted for Christ forever.
